Generating your H1 report
When your elements are in, the assemblies are assigned, and the details are filled, click Generate H1 compliance report. Thermly saves the project first automatically - the report always reflects a saved version, and the revision history stays in step - then renders a PDF you can review and attach to a building-consent application.
Before you generate
- Every element has an area and an assembly.
- The climate zone is set.
- Project Information is complete (blank fields print as "Not specified"), and your Profile settings carry the author name and organisation the report is attributed to.
- The Heat-loss check footer shows your current verdict and headroom.
- Optionally, run AI Review from the report bar - a free pre-flight that lists gaps, compliance blockers and risks to look at before you generate, each with a clause pointer to verify against. See Reading the H1 report.
You can generate at any status. Draft and In Review reports carry a preview watermark; Submitted and Approved reports print without it.
While Thermly is in open testing, generating any report first shows a short pre-release terms acknowledgement - outputs may be incorrect, verify independently, not the sole basis for a compliance decision - with a link to the full Terms of Use and a checkbox to accept before the PDF is produced.
What the report contains
The PDF is a complete H1/AS1 6th edition Calculation Method submission. Sections flow continuously, the header carries the project name, its save version and workflow status, and the footer records the Thermly version that generated it:
- Headline result - proposed vs reference building heat loss, and the PASS / FAIL verdict, with the climate zone named alongside its regions.
- Compliance checks - the glazing cap (§2.1.2.5), the minimum construction R-values (§2.1.2.11) and the heated-element minimums (§2.1.2.12), each shown pass, fail or N/A with its basis.
- Schedule of building elements - each wall, roof and floor by its tag and name (WA1, RO1, FL1 …), with its area and construction R-value; openings are tagged by their element (WA1-W2 is window W2 on wall WA1, with your own plan tag carried through), so a reviewer goes straight from the schedule to the drawings.
- Construction schedule - every element, its area, assembly and construction R-value, with the clause basis for each figure.
- Construction build-ups - the layer-by-layer R-value decomposition for each structured assembly, so a reviewer can follow the arithmetic. Each card prints a colour bar matching the element's plan colour, and each framed layer declares its framing fraction and the basis it came from (declared geometry, the 38% default, or a recorded demonstration quoted verbatim) - where an air gap or continuous insulation was folded into the layer, the exact equation the engine evaluated is printed, so the stated inputs reproduce the stated R.
- Critical review items - an always-on section of the things that must be resolved before the report is relied on: any construction below a §2.1.2.11 minimum (a blocking finding that no heat-loss surplus can trade away) leading the list, then the material cautions (supplied values with no stated basis, sub-38% framing without a recorded demonstration, plausibility flags).
- Insulation plans - your marked-up plan diagrams, each under a subheader naming the plan (Roof plan, Wall plan …). An uploaded marked-up image prints with a small colour key beneath it (swatch, tag and name per element), so a plan coloured in another product can be decoded without opening Thermly.
- References & sources - the standards and product datasheets behind every figure. Datasheet entries print their full URL and the date Thermly retrieved them (the report is read on paper, where a link target is invisible), each document names its real publisher, and every value traces to a standards table or a manufacturer document.
- Assumptions, validation warnings (where any downlight derate shows its working), the declaration, and the revision history (the project's save-version chain) - toggled per account in Settings → Report. By default, References and the declaration print; assumptions, validation warnings and revision history are off until you switch them on.

The declaration block
The report ends with a declaration for the people responsible for it. This is the heart of the professional-tool relationship: Thermly does the calculation and produces the document; a named professional confirms the inputs and reviews the result.
The declaration states, in substance:
"I confirm that the inputs used in this report reflect the selected project construction assemblies and product specifications at the time of calculation. This report has been prepared using the applicable standard and calculation method and does not constitute a certificate of compliance, council approval, or producer statement."
It carries Prepared by, Organisation, Role and Date (from your profile, or the per-report author override); a Review and approval section (Status, Reviewed by, Review date, and approval when the project is Approved - on a draft this shows a greyed "Completed at sign-off" placeholder); and signature lines for preparer and reviewer.
The report is your calculation and documentation, presented for a professional to certify. It is not itself a compliance certificate. See Can I use the report for consent submission?
Open testing
While Thermly is in its public open-testing phase, a banner appears on the H1 page and the pre-release terms acknowledgement fronts report generation. The generated report itself is clean - no testing notice prints on it - so a report you are satisfied with can be submitted as-is. Both the banner and the acknowledgement retire at full launch.
Revising and re-generating
Change anything - an area, a product, a detail - and re-generate; the report reflects the current state. Re-generating a consent-ready report for the same building is always fine; if the site address has changed since the report was finalised, Thermly asks you to confirm it is still the same building before proceeding. Move the project through In Review and Submitted to Approved to freeze it (see Setting up a project).
